Police officer killed while responding to 911 call on the way to work

WASHINGTON — Police in Washington state were called to a 911 call from a woman reporting that her husband had been stabbed to death.

The woman told police that her 22-year-old son had been in a dispute with her boyfriend.

The 911 call went unanswered.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect was later identified as 23-year old Justin Thomas Thomas, of Portland, Oregon.

Thomas is charged with first-degree murder.

The Oregon State Police said in a statement that Thomas had a criminal history in Washington.

Thomas’ death came just days after two other people died after they were stabbed to deaths in Portland, prompting questions about the lack of oversight in the state.

In June, two people were killed after being stabbed in downtown Portland and another in the city’s Northgate neighborhood.

Authorities in Portland say the city is facing a surge in violent crime, especially in the area of South End.
